Must Try Vegetarian Indian Dishes

Indian food is considered to have varied and strong vegetarian tradition, reason being majority of the Indians don’t eat meat because of religious reasons. So is it common to find an all-vegetable food in most Indian households?

We did some little research about must try Vegetarian dishes that are commonly found in Indian households and this is what we found:

Pav Bhaji

Pav Bhaji is one of the favorites dishes in Indian households. This is a spicy mixture of vegetables with a spoonful of butter, fresh tomatoes and toppings of cheese and fruits (Dry and fresh). It usually consumed with warm bread or crisp fried in butter.

Paneer Tikka

A vegetarian alternative for Chicken Tikka and other meat dishes, Paneer Tikka is Indian for ‘cottage cheese’. The fresh cheese is usually marinated in spices skewed with capsicums, onions and tomatoes. Grilled and marinated overnight this dish is sometimes accompanied by mint chutney or salad.

Dal

Dal is one of Indian staple foods and can be found in every Indian household. It is a generic term for any Indian dish made primarily from legumes. come in different varieties and are made from different pulses and Lentils. This favorite Indian dish can be eaten alone, with rice or you can deep a piece of chapatti in it and eat it generously. In northern India it is also known as Sanbhar.

Thali

Thali (“the plate” in Hindi) is a delicious and inexpensive dish served on a round plate with small bowls having vegetables, curries and curd. This food is traditionally eaten with your fingers, especially the finger of the right hand.

Chole Bhature

Is a combination of Chole (spicy chick peas) and fried Indian bread called Bhatoora (made of maida flour). It is served during breakfast with fried flour bread onions, carrot pickle, green chutney and achaar.

Biryani

Biryani is an aromatic mixed rice dish cooked with several spices, notably saffron and vegetables. It is usually perfect for huge family dinners.
