It had been a while since I had been to Village Market. I got lost here a couple of times when I was a younger and until today I’ve never understood the directions there. If you’re like me and you need a compass to get through, just follow the people heading to the foodcourt. Once you get past all the eager foodies, Prime Cuts will be right in front of you in all its glory. Prime Cuts is not your ordinary butchery. The local one you go to might not even come near. Heck, they’re called Prime Cuts. No mediocre, dead looking meat. You get nothing but the freshest meat in its highest quality.
If butcheries had ambiance, they have lots of it. From the bull painting on the wall to the dhow inspired seafood section to the well tiled walled walls, Prime Cuts is a meat lovers paradise. The first section you’ll see when you walk in is their seafood section. They offer a wide variety of crustacea, fresh water fish, molluscs, roe and salt water fish. They stock a wide variety of fish ranging from yellow fin tuna, fresh salmon fillet, tilapia fillet, parrot fish fillet, fresh rock cod fillet among more. You can view their entire selection here. You’d be spoilt for choice if you were craving fish. I know I was! The salmon fillet on display had me craving for sushi.
They have rabbit fish, which I was seeing for the first time. Does it eat carrots? Is it the Easter bunny of the ocean? This and more on the next episode of 24. Seriously though, they have a really impressive selection of seafood. No wonder they supply Ocean Basket. If you ever you need calamari, fresh octopus, headless tiger prawns or fresh head on prawns, you should pay them a visit.
Love your poultry? The have a wide array of chicken, goose, duck, quail and turkey both fresh or frozen. I love how they sell their chicken with different marinade. They had lemon and herb marinade wings and whole chicken, honey flavoured wings, Portuguese peri peri wings and whole chicken, chicken tandoori skewers and chicken legs marinated with hot tikka. Don’t worry, they have plain chicken as well and you can separately buy the marinade.
Planning a Sunday BBQ with the boys? their red meat section will be your best friend. Their wide variety of steaks will have you spoilt for choice. You can choose from beef, lamb, pork and game. If you love your veal or calf liver, they got it, as well as fresh homemade spice sausages and boerwors. Need some sauce? They sell Jack Daniels Tennessee Style Barbecue Sauce and yes it has their whisky included in the ingredients.
At Prime Cuts they know you want to complete your meal. Their deli stocks a wide variety of cheeses, cold cuts (pate and salamis), cooking utensils and accessories, sushi and sashimi, marinades and groceries ranging from anchovies and artichokes to olive kalamata to pickled leak.
So unless you’re vegetarian, I highly suggest that you visit Prime Cuts and have lunch at their bistro too while you’re at it!
