Nairobi’s top liquid chefs braved the chilly weather on last week during the Grand Finale of the ABSOLUT professional mixology competition hosted at Mercury Lounge Westlands.

The final was a follow up to the culmination of a series of three hotly contested heats where eleven top professional bartenders qualified to battle it out at this finale to represent various bars and hotels across Nairobi.

Inspired by Kenya at 50 celebrations, King’ Kline Ojal from Aqueous Bar emerged the winner with his fruity signature cocktail, The ABSOLUT Misty Web, beautifully crafted from ABSOLUT Mango and served in a traditional African guard embedded with a Kenyan flag. He walked away with a cash prize of KSH 100,000 and a fully paid trip to train with the best at the ABSOLUT Vodka headquarters in Sweden.

Joseph Mwawaka from Brew Bistro took second place with his signature cocktail ABSOLUT Persuasion, and received a cash prize of Ksh50, 000, and an ABSOLUT hamper. Susan Mugure representing last year’s home of the winner; Mercury Lounge brought a remarkable twist to the competition with her elegant Champagne infused cocktail called ‘Cheers to the King of ABSOLUT’ to take third place. She bagged KSH 25 000 and an ABSOLUT hamper.

Also in an interesting twist, seven media personalities took to the stage to battle it out during the media shake-off. Della Mbaya from Homeboyz Radio emerged winner and walked away with KSH 15 000, a cocktail making kit and an ABSOLUT hamper. Her signature cocktail named ABSOLUT-ly Della-icious, inspired by the love for ABSOLUT Raspberri set the perfect mood. Jeannette Musembi from Eat Out Kenya (yay that’s us!) and Kevin Oguoko from The Standard came second with their cocktails, ABSOLUT Dragnet & Mandarin O.g. respectively.

Brian Owango ABSOLUT brand ambassador noted, “The level of creativity showcased by the contestants is remarkable. Nairobi has got great talent and skill; we envision a bigger and better challenge next year as we strive to bring the art of mixology and ABSOLUT Vodka to life.”
