Single Malt Scotch Whisky Glenmorangie hosted the Global Brand Ambassador – Mr. Hamish Torrie on his maiden visit in the country.
We were treated to a whisky pairing lunch where we sampled three varieties; The Original, The Cherry Cask Finish-Lasanta which is aged for 12 years and The Quinta Ruban. Lucca Restaurant at Villa Rosa Kempinski had crafted a special set menu.
Our first pairing was the Original, paired with Mozzarella cheese with fresh tomato and pesto dressing. This variety was a light introduction to the Single Malt. It, light, refreshing, with a touch of toffee and vanilla. It paired well with our cold starter.
Our main course options included Beef tenderloin in green peppercorn and marsala wine cream sauce, Risotto with prawns calamari, clams, codfish and tomato concasse and pennette pasta with spicy tomato sauce and garlic. I had the beef tenderloin which matched perfectly with the 12-year-old Cherry Cask Finish-Lasanta. The mild spiciness of the whisky and the heavy body balanced with the beef, transforming to a match made in the stars.
Last we had the classic Italia dessert, Tiramisu, paired with The Quinta Ruban. This last whisky was loved by the majority of the invited guests. We were enthralled to learn that this is the darkest and most intense whisky in the extra-matured range. Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban has spent 10 years maturing in American white oak casks, before being transferred into specially selected ruby port pipes from the Quintas or wine estates of Portugal. Its dark chocolate tasting notes made it the perfect match for the creamy, rich tiramisu.
Speaking at the event Mr. Hamish Torrie, Glenmorangie Global Brand Ambassador noted that, “For Glenmorangie single malt we see Kenya as the lead country in the region where the growth opportunity is very exciting – Kenya has the potential to be our lighthouse market in East Africa” Glenmorangie has been voted Master Distiller of the Year by the International Wines & Spirits Council twice in a row. It is in the same spirit, that we continue to celebrate the smoothest and most elegant single malt whisky from Scotland. For over 40 years, Glenmorangie has been a pioneer of wood expertise and maturation process of whisky in the best barrels.
Mr. Hamish Torrie further added that “during this visit, I have been hugely impressed by the knowledge and enthusiasm Kenyans have demonstrated for Single Malt Whisky and in particular Glenmorangie”
