Since its inception in 2001 the Lamu Cultural Festival has grown to be one of best event to ever come out the North Coast of Kenya. The festival has seen an emergence of various celebrations and showcases of different cultural beliefs and traditions amongst people of Lamu and the community at large.
This year’s edition, will include various activities and showcases such as photography exhibition by Anja Gruca, the popular dhow and donkey races. The cultural activities will include dance performances from the locals, music concerts spotlighting the cultural heritage of Kenyan artistes, the traditional Swahili poetry, Henna painting, Bao competition, swimming and a busy food bazaar displaying both indigenous and exotic foods from Kenya.
There will also be an open concert showcasing local Lamu artistes and during the colourful four day festival at the Mkunguni Square in Lamu.
The Lamu Cultural Festival will be taking place on 26th – 29th, November. So head down to the coast and enjoy the best of both worlds by experiencing what Lamu will be offering. While at it don’t forget to check the restaurants in Lamu for the delicious, indigenous and exotic cuisines on offer too.
