Business Daily: A Tantalizing Ribs Affair at Soaring Eagle Spur

I am an avid meat lover. Nothing makes me happier than digging into a juicy medium done steak combined with delicious sauce, so when I had the invitation to go to Soaring Eagle Spur at Eka Hotel along Mombasa Rd, I jumped at the opportunity, grabbed a friend and we whet  our appetites for a splendid evening.

Soaring Eagle Spur is a franchise of Spur Steak Ranches – one of the largest South African restaurant chains. It is also one of the two Spurs in Nairobi, with the other located at the Southern Sun Mayfair Hotel on Parklands road.

We went on a Thursday evening to find the restaurant relatively full due to the popular all-you-can-eat ribs offer every Thursday. From families to groups of friends, the restaurant was a hive of activity. Being a busy night, the servers were up and about making sure everyone was promptly served. As we were guided to our table upstairs, we noticed a number of reserved tables; a clear indication that Soaring Eagle Spur have perfected their art.

The restaurant offers delicious specialty steaks, burgers, chicken, and seafood dishes. They also serve a wide range of salads and soups as well as teas, coffees and desserts.

Soft music played in the background, setting the perfect backdrop for conversation. The restaurant’s décor features brown tones with some chairs having cow skin decorations painted on them. True to spur fashion, Native Indian artwork was present on the decor as well as the cutlery. The soft yellow lights combined with the brown tones set a cozy ambiance perfect for relaxing.

We decided to try the specials menu comprising of meal combos. I had the Mohawk combo (200g ribs, quarter chicken and 125g boerewors) with a baked potato and a side of onion rings and my friend had the Apache combo (200g ribs, 4 Buffalo wings and 200g pork chops) with fries and onion rings on the side.

The meals were served in generous portions. We loved the ribs the most which were served as a stack of six ribs. They were tender and flavourful and the slight char complimented the sweet sauce they were glazed with. The pork chops were so juicy; each bite melted in my mouth. I will definitely be back for some more!

The buffalo wings would have done with more sauce and seasoning while the quarter chicken would have been an ambrosial dish if it had more seasoning.

Soaring Eagle Spur is a classic family restaurant with a spacious play area for children with fun activities such as a jungle gym, play stations and coloring sheets to keep the little ones busy and entertained. With lots of sitting space upstairs and downstairs, a fully stocked bar and a smoking zone on the outside terrace, this is a great location for groups. Aside from their all-you-can-eat offer on ribs every Thursday for Ksh. 1900 per person, they also provide a 20% discount off your bill every Wednesday for all types of steaks.
