Kenya’s esteemed celebrity Chef Kiran Jethwa and owner of Seven Restaurants, well known for combining cooking and travel, spread his culinary wings even further last month when he embarked on a trip to Bali in Indonesia.
Invited by broadcasting giant Fox International Channels, Kiran was asked to showcase his culinary artistry at a gala dinner hosted by FIC at the annual Asia pacific Pay T.V. operator’s summit (APOS- Asia Pacific Pay TV Operators Summit).
The glamorous dinner, which took place at the stunning five star Balinese resort and spa Ayana, was attended by several of FIC’s top executives, including; Hernan Lopez (Global CEO Fox International Channels), Ward Platt (Global COO National Geographic Channel). Musical entertainment was provided by American singing sensation and America Idol runner up Angie Miller.
Chef Kiran’s menu took inspiration from his recent adventures in Africa for his T.V. show Tales from the Bush Larder currently airing locally on Zuku, channel 100, and internationally on 24 Kitchen, Nat Geo people and Nat Geo Wild. He has just finished filming the third series, taking in Mozambique, South Africa & Zambia.
During the dinner Chef Kiran successfully paired unusual refined ingredients such as cured aloe vera and smoked rock lobster with Kenyan staples Ugali and cassava in an unusual twist that kept his guests guessing.
Local ingredients such as Balinese black rice were also incorporated creating a mouth watering African Asian fusion of flavours which delighted the distinguished diners.
Kiran’s inclusion and success at this international event further Proves that he is one of the major figures of African cuisine.
