Chez Sonia, Fine Wines and Fun Conversations

written by Yummy Team 23rd September 2019

To perfectly enjoy a bottle of wine, we recommend you do so with your friends or family while eating something wonderful. We did just that by heading to Chez Sonia where we met up with a few of our friends, made new friends and learned about Australian, Argentinian and New Zealand wines. The Terrazas de Los Andes (from Argentina), Cape Mentelle (from Australia) and Cloudy Bay (from New Zealand) are new world wines that are vibrant and fresh which are now available in Kenya. These wines are under the premium portfolio of LVMH Wines, the leading company in producing luxury products.

Chez Sonia played host to the wine tasting on a chilled afternoon. Wine, savoury antipasto platters and fun conversations on a weekday? We are game anytime. The setting at Chez was simple and the crowd was small and intimate as we learned so much about wine through the trained palate of Alexandre.

“This is the best antipasto platter you’ll find. The bitings there really pair well with these wines,” said Alexandre as some of us on our table bit off a piece of tangy blue cheese and downed it with a glass of wine.

 Wines to Enjoy

Cape Mentelle Shiraz

Our wine journey at Chez Sonia started with this oaky shiraz. It was a great aperitif and had some spicy notes to it with some enticing aromas that had everyone falling in love.

Terrazas de Los Andes Sauvignon Blanc

This was a favourite among most of the guests who were present at the Chez Sonia wine tasting. It’s a crisp and vivacious wine on the nose with aromas of citrus, lime and passion fruit. It’s a bright and well-balanced wine.

Terrazas de Los Andes Reserva Torrontés

This is another bottle of wine that we got to enjoy. With a fresh and fruity character to the wine, it’s the kind you want to sip on a quiet afternoon. It has tropical notes of melon and tangerine with some herbal aromas.

Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir

This wine is aromatic with a bouquet of flavours. It’s easy to get fruity notes of raspberry or strawberry with this wine. It also has delicate acidity and this medium-bodied wine is also described as being fragrant and aromatic with chalky tannins.

Terrazas de Los Andes Cabernet Sauvignon

This Cabernet has notes of black fruits and cherries. It also has an aromatic bouquet of flavours that includes thyme and oranges. There was casual chat in between the sessions where even one of us mixed two wines. Did we drink that? Well, whatever happens in Chez Sonia stays in Chez Sonia.

Cape Mentelle Sauvignon Blanc Semillon

We enjoyed a glass of this with some garlic. Surprised? The garlic, which was part of the antipasto platter, had been warmed in an oven with olive oil topping. The lemon and zesty taste accentuated the garlic as well as the other light bites on our platter.

Terrazas de Los Andes Chardonnay

All things had to come to an end and our afternoon was also drawing to a close. We were delighted to try out the Chardonnay with the delicious dessert. The Chardonnay is an elegant wine with a fragrant feel with peachy, pear and pineapple hints.

These wines are for those who love quality, a little adventure and the vibrancy of new world wines. Order a bottle this week and you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
