This alone should be motivation enough for you to buy and enjoy your Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate. There is more though – chocolate is fading fast from the market, and the more you enjoy it now the better!
Last year, it is projected that the world ate roughly 70,000 metric tons more cocoa than it produced. These numbers are expected to swell to 1 million metric tons by 2020, a more than 14-fold increase. By 2030 these numbers could reach 2 million metric tons.
The dry weather in West Africa specifically in the Ivory Coast and Ghana, where more than 70 per cent of the world’s cocoa is produced has greatly decreased production in the region and the International Cocoa Organisation estimates it has wiped out between 30 per cent and 40 per cent of global cocoa production.
For this reason, cocoa prices have climbed by more than 60 per cent since 2012 when people started eating more chocolate than the world could produce.
So next time you enter a retail store or supermarket, get a hold of your chocolate bar and savour every moment of it like it’s your last.
