When you think of Colombia, images of Shakira, Sofia Vergara and Miss Universe come to mind, right? However, Colombia has much more to offer than the beautiful singer, actress and super models. For starters, the country boasts of a mixture of tastes, colors, music, landscapes and a myriad more attributes which you now have the chance to experience at the Colombia Food and Cultural Week Festival.
The festival, which starts on 4th May and runs all the way to 10th, will see a lot of the Colombian culture being exhibited at Nairobi’s Sankara Hotel. Relish on the delicately prepared and insanely sweet dishes by the visiting Chef Gerardo Zabala, whose culinary experience dates back from 1986 and he has through the years perfected his skills.
I had the chance to sample his food and every dish was exquisite, with each dish revealing a unique taste which literally lit up my taste buds unleashing a yearn that could only be satisfied by having another bite after another.
Apart from the authentic Colombian Cuisine, the festival will also feature cultural music by the much celebrated Mario Galeano, renown for his creations such as Frente Cumbiero, Los Piranas and Ondatropica. The musicologist guarantees to keep you on your feet dancing to cultural tunes as you indulge in the full Colombian experience.
You will get to sample over 15 dishes on the menu incorporating spices and herbs with the buffet going for Ksh 3,250 per person and including one drink, either a Desperado or the Tequila Sunrise Cocktail. Vegetarians will also be covered. In addition to all that, there will also be a 20% discount on the buffet menu and beverages as well as body spa massage at Angsana Spa for all the Colombian citizens and diplomats, as well as 10% off for all Paramount Bank card holders .
