Maybe if you’re at your bachelor/spinster pal’s BBQ, and the drinking starts at noon. Or you just want to go all out on a hot sunny day.
Here are some tips that can make sure you stay awake and, you know, survive.
Drinking all day is an endurance event. You are literally slowly poisoning yourself. Listen to your body it is the number one most important thing. If it tells you, “I’ve had enough,” then you need to stop, Respect such messages and it is best to listen for them.
Maximum Volume, Minimum Impact
ABV (alcohol by volume) is essential here the lower the better. Continuing from the last point, this is a marathon. Sipping beer (typically 6% ABV) is a slow, steady jog that will get you to the finish line.
Taking a shot of whiskey (typically 40% ABV) is like doing a 100-yard run as fast as you can in the middle of it. With this you’re going to blow yourself out quickly, and very well you might not finish unless you slow way down straight away.
This is absolutely necessary. Drinking on an empty stomach is always a recipe for disaster. Always start with a big and hearty breakfast. You know alcohol is primarily absorbed in the small intestine. So have complex carbohydrates fuel it up with a breakfast of whole-wheat pancakes, or oatmeal.
Having plenty of food in your stomach slows the rate of alcohol absorption, but having a full stomach will encourage you to drink slower. This same rule also applies for the end of the night, and the next morning as you’re trying to shake off the alcohol. Always try to avoid super salty snacks, though, because that may end up dehydrating you.
Alcohol is a diuretic, which means it tends to make you pee more, which may lead to dehydration. On this water is your friend. Not soft drinks or fizzy water. Tend to have at least a glass of water for every alcoholic beverage you guzzle.
It is hard to do it, and you will pee quite a lot. Hydration is completely essential for maintaining appropriate brain function. The more you dry out, the more your head will hurt, and may lead you down a nasty path very quickly.
Definitely drink as much water as you can before you go to sleep.
