The Hilton Nairobi is an iconic hotel. The hotel opened its glamourous doors to the world in 1969 and has remained one of the top hotels in the city, maintaining its power of attracting the upper echelon of the country and internationally. You’re probably thinking; wow, there must be a brilliant history behind it and oh yes there is. However, there’s more to just the chic and classy interior at this hotel. The food equally matches expectations.
Wonderful cannot even sum up the kind of experience we had at the Hilton Nairobi. It’s amazing how the hotel, a landmark for many within Nairobi, has such a depth and rich character beyond what most people see. How many times have you told someone to wait for you at ‘The Hilton’? We all agree that it’s how we’ve found our bearing in the city when we get lost.
Our team couldn’t decide whether it was the vintage pieces that include travelling cases from the ’80s, a hot air balloon basket, the beautiful lamps reminiscent of old British train stations (Harry Potter vibes!) or just the atmosphere that makes this hotel truly unique. At one point, we struggled to find the perfect word to describe how in awe we were. The hotel also has a swimming pool and a restaurant on the upper floor. It’s incredible imagining having all of this within the Nairobi CBD. They have made this work. Sunday breezy brunch anyone?
The artwork at Americanah Café takes you back in time to classic American films and legends long gone but still remembered. Every restaurant and room felt like it had its own story to tell. Our highlight was the Jockey Pub. Built to embody the classic British Jockey Pubs, this pub stands out. Created with a masculine interior of deep brown earthy colours, a screen, a tiny dancing section that occasionally hosts DJs and a music set, it truly feels like nobility.
Another amazing highlight that we’re sure a foodie like you reading this was waiting for, right? “The food actually looks beautiful,” this was a sentiment from one of our members as the food was brought to us at the Traveller’s Restaurant. And true to the visually appealing presentation, it was translated to our palate.
This is what we had:
Grilled Salmon salad
(Avocado, salmon, cherry tomatoes, lettuce, house dressing)
Crispy battered prawns
(With lemon wedges and garlic aioli)
Grass-fed beef fillet steak
(Grilled to your liking and served with pea puree)
(Beef ribs, served with a crispy fries and salad)
Chef’s 7 spice’ signature pork chops
(Award-winning Grilled glazed pork chops served with mash potatoes dressed leaves)
Chocolate mousse with orange confit
(Dark chocolate mousse with orange candied nuggets)
Dark chocolate brownie with vanilla ice-cream
Head to Hilton Nairobi for a fascinating complex combination of good food, drinks, surrounded by a rich history that is bound to transport you back in time.
