When you’re invited for a wine tasting at Capital Club you know it’s going to be a night to remember. You dress well, skip lunch (because you need space for a 4-course meal) and show up on time to be wowed.
On this particular night, KWAL in partnership with Sommelier Victoria Mulu- Munywoki hosted a premium wine and food pairing experience at Capital Club. Guests were taken through award-winning wine brands Durbanville Hills and Alto which are among the latest addition to KWAL’s growing portfolio of premium wines.
Chef Rose Soul prepared a feast of a meal to go with the 4 wines we would be tasting that night. First up was the appetiser, Seared Tuna Tataki with Avocado Cream, Ponzu, Bullet Chili, Ceres paired with Durbanville Hills Collectors Reserve Sauvignon Blanc. This light starter was savoury and the citrus notes in the wine elevated the savoury taste of the seared tuna. We moved onto the first course which was a Tomato Salad (Cherry tomato, Basil, Balsamic, Cress) paired with Durbanville Hills Collectors Reserve Chardonnay. The fresh salad paired well with the buttery Chardonnay and prepared our palates for the impossibly delicious second course, a Confit Button Mushroom with Mash Potato and Broccoli paired with the Alto 1693 Red Blend. Victoria introduced us to a new pairing that might just be our new favourite. The meaty mushroom and red blend married deliciously bringing out the red fruit and subtle spiciness of the wine. The third course, a Grilled Striploin with Pomme Anna, Carrot Puree, Baby Leeks and Asparagus paired with the Alto Cabernet Sauvignon was definitely a showstopping combination. The night capped off with dessert in the form of a Watermelon Pizza with Cream Cheese, Coconut and Sorbet along with speeches from the group.
For the foodies and wine lovers, this experience was a great way to usher in the festive season which we hope will be filled with as much food, laughter and quality wine as this sumptuous dinner.
