Coffee to keep the cold at bay at InterCon’s Plantation café

written by Yoga David 22nd August 2014

Coffee has a long history of being blamed for many ills — from the humorous “It will stunt your growth” to the not-so-humorous claim that it causes heart disease and cancer. Despite of all these facts surrounding its health benefits or lack of thereof, to most people one thing is for sure- its taste and aroma makes one’s morning so much better!

And speaking of great mornings, the InterContinental Hotel is offering you a fantastic start to your day with a great coffee offer at their Plantation Café.

Located on the ground floor area of the hotel, Plantation  café is one of the oldest at the CBD and dates several decades back to when the hotel was built. The brown hues and large leather seats decorating the lounge area make the space look cozy and classy.

Although Plantation Café seems too ‘swanky’ because it is located inside a prestigious hotel, when I walked in I felt at home, and the shiny floors did not intimidate me as I had anticipated. Soft friendly chatters of satisfied clients filled the air and smiling waiters eagerly welcomed me, immediately showing me to my table.

Usually the loud noises in most of Nairobi cafes deter me from holding any serious meetings, and I must admit Plantation café was quite the opposite. It felt relaxed and chic, enough to impress anyone you brought in.

The name plantation, as I later learnt, was because the café was famed for its delicious teas and coffees that were directly sourced from local farmers from their vast plantations.

To keep the Plantation Café spirit alive, InterContinental Hotel have come up with a new coffee menu that will woo even the choosiest of diners.

The menu, which will be officially launched in the coming weeks, obviously feature the classics like espressos, cappuccinos and lattes, which will come with a choice of hazelnut, vanilla and coconut syrup.

The biting menu looks and tastes even more interesting, with diners getting selections such as smoked salmon platter with capers, lemon and cream cheese served with toasts. The Egg Bhurji, which is an Indian specialty served with Chapati Bread will definitely excite the Indian and spicy food lovers.

You can also enjoy your sandwiches, pizzas, burgers ands sweet desserts with a wide range of frappeccinos, mochaccinos and iced cappuccinos at decent prices. The vegetables are crunchy and fresh, and weight watchers definitely have no excuse to miss out.

All in all, the newly launched cafe menu at InterContinental Hotel is a must try if you’re looking for a meeting or ‘chill’ spot in town.

The team at Plantation Café is also prepping to unveil a fantastic menu of afternoon tea that will be available from 3pm to 5pm.
