Walking on the inside cobbled streets of Mayfair, London on a grey chilly cold evening, I certainly didn’t expect to walk into a lush and eccentric bar. From the moment the doorman rang the door bell for us to be let in (yes the bar has door bell!) I was immediately transported back to the Victorian age and I didn’t think it would be that much fun. A huge amount of effort has been spent on the waiter’s clothes and decor. The cocktail bar felt like a west end production. I felt I was actually sitting in Mr Foggs living room which is the point with the leather seats, dark wood interiors and all sorts of paraphernalia littered across the one roomed bar.
Above me dangled a huge hot air balloon and across me, an Indian tiger mounted on the wall and I locked eyes before I quickly averted my eyes to the other taxidermy and artefacts. The waiters all played their part in their velvet waistcoats and military jackets. It was almost like being the proverbial fly on the wall whilst Pleas Foggs planned his travels around the world in 80 days.
The drinks are not cheap and the complimentary finger bitings were an Indian snack which at the time i felt was slightly out of place but on hindsight was actually genius considering we were in Foggs sitting room!. If you’re looking for a fun, whimsical, themed bar in London which sets it apart from other London bars this is it. This is the old London you definitely want to visit and if you’re lucky you may meet Mr Foggs himself who can turn up unexpectedly.
