Westlands never disappoints when it comes to restaurant hangouts. I had had enough of the scorching sun when I luckily found Kivulini. Located at the Wasini luxury homes along Church Road, this exotic restaurant is the place to be. As its swahili name suggests, it gave me the perfect shade.
Parking is ample and quite safe. As you walk towards the restaurant, a short footbridge built over a man-made pond will instantly catch your attention. Aesthetically built with small fish darting in every direction in the water, it will be difficult not to stop for a while and get mesmerized by it all.
A smartly dressed waiter emerges from inside to immediately offer us a table. You can either choose to sit by the serene poolside or at their alfresco dining area on the terrace overlooking the pool, which subtly reminds me of a holiday gateway. The seats here are plush and inviting and the atmosphere automatically relaxes you.
The menu is a fusion of continental, International, African and Chinese dishes. For starters, the Chicken and Sweet Corn Soup is absolutely divine. The taste is creamy and smooth and the aroma completes the delicious ensemble.
The Oriental chicken wings are worth a try; they are quite juicy and tender dipped in a light spicy sauce.
For the mains, sample the Spaghetti alla carbonara, which I’ll admit is done quite by the book by Kivulini’s Chef. A tricky meal to execute, the dish is made up of a mixture of crispy bacon, garlic, beaten eggs, parmesan cheese and cream tossed with al denté spaghetti. It is smooth and doesn’t have a single curdle.
The Kivulini spcecial is grilled lamb chops and boy are they yummy! Happy hour runs from 5:00pm to 7:00pm daily with free bitings, and beers go for only Ksh 250. The Sunday brunch starts at 12:00pm and you can dig in at only Ksh 2000. There’s a 10% discount on all EatOut bookings so go on and get in your reservation!
