Hakuna Matata at Kukito, Java’s New Fast Food Outlet

written by Anthony Mbugua 11th October 2019

Looking to grab a quick bite in the CBD? Kukito is the newly opened fast food joint by Java House serving nothing but delicious kuku, fries, drinks and other munchy bites! Hakuna matata? Yes, that’s the kind of artwork that will greet you when you walk in the joint that’s adjacent to Java House on Kimathi Street.

On Tuesday (8th October 2019), Kimathi Street played host to foodies, media, clients, customers and curious onlookers as Kukito opened its doors to the public. This subsidiary brand will be Java’s 77th outlet in East Africa.

Staying true to the Kenyan spirit, Kukito’s space is filled with a deep earthy brown colour, witty and bold pieces of art with easily relatable Kenyan lingo and phrases such as ‘Hakuna Matata‘ (Swahili for there are no troubles here), ‘This Plot Is Not for Sale‘ ( a common line you’ll see as you pass by land that’s yet to be constructed on or used). What got to me and my team were the humorous words on their serviettes, ‘Kula hadi mifupa ikujue jina‘ which is Swahili and loosely transalates to ‘Snack on the chicken until the bones recognize your eating skills.’

We got the chance to enjoy their chicken and fries and honestly, that’s the only thing we were talking about the entire afternoon at the office. Their chicken is soft, with a slightly spicy flavour that will leave you licking your lips or ordering for more like we did. The chicken is prepared in a very special way, making it a healthier alternative to deep fried chicken. The food joint promises to bring the good old grilled chicken, with a twist, stacked with a lot of local and traditional Kenyan flavour. “Kuku choma” at its finest. Asking about the fries? They are a balance of soft and crunchy, just what you need at lunch or in the evening on your way home. Kukito is pocket-friendly and they have deals such as the ‘Squad Combo’ which you can enjoy about four of you.

“We are delighted to unveil Kukito to the public. This brand is as Kenyan as it gets. It upholds the love for chicken and the need for human connections over amazing food. We hope your excitement matches ours,” expressed Priscilla Gathungu, Java House Group Head of HR during the launch ceremony.

Kukito will be open from 11am to 11pm.

Java House Group brands are; Java House, 360 Degrees Artisan Pizza, Planet Yogurt and Kukito.
