Ever since I discovered Ki.Chen, I order from them so much everyone in the office jokes that I should become their official brand ambassador. But what’s not to love? You see, I’ve been trying to traverse the challenging path of healthy eating for the past few months. Challenging because being the editor of a food magazine, it only makes sense that I should explore everything the foodie scene in Nairobi has to offer, in all it’s sometimes sugar-packed and deep fried glory. We’re constantly sampling food in the office, ordering in from around the city and going out to Eat pretty much everyday. We are EatOut Kenya, after all!
Most of us can relate to the frustration of finding healthy delicious meals that are pocket friendly and get delivered right to our office desk. Ki.Chen hits all those points, and then some! My favourite item off their menu is their Thai chicken noodle salad which goes for only ksh 400. The first time I had it, I was compelled to go to their Facebook page to tell them that it was so good it deserved its own love song from Beyonce. The ingredients include noodles, grilled chicken strips, asparagus, sesame seeds, carrots, coriander, sugar snaps, mint, nuts and red pepper accompanied by a thick and salty peanut sauce which when mixed with the salad, makes for quite the explosion of flavours.
When it comes to hot dishes, my favourite has got to be the spicy chicken wings with stir fry veggies, a new addition to their menu. For an extra Ksh 100, I often get it with a side of lemon coriander rice. Ki.Chen is very generous, and so there’s always enough wings to go around. They are first grilled in an oven then coated in spicy and sweet sauces, and come with a medley of nuts and crunchy vegetables. Other options like their beef massaman curry will also hit just the spot, as will the ultimate BLT sandwich with its grilled bacon, fresh tomatoes, iceberg lettuce and chipotle mayonnaise.
Delivery time is usually an hour from the time of placing an order, and the charge is only Ksh 150. For Ksh 6,000 a month, you can even get 12 meals of your choosing delivered right to your office. Check out their menu on their website, I bet you’ll fall in love with something on there.
