Nairobi Restaurant Week has quickly become the most anticipated event in the city’s culinary calendar. The 4th edition of this annual celebration of food and drink will take place from January 26th – Feb 5th 2017, with over 60 restaurants creating special prix-fixe menus starting from as little as Ksh 950.
2 Michelin Star Chef Ashley Palmer – Watts, who is currently the Chef De Cuisine at the ‘Dinner by Heston Blumenthal’, will be in Nairobi to kick off NRW2017 and launch EatOut’s partnership with UK based charity – Farm Africa, that works by helping farmers increase their harvests and sustain natural resources, building a prosperous rural Africa.
The invite only cocktail launch will take place at the Tribe Hotel in Gigiri on the 19th of January and over the last few weeks, Chef Ashley has been working alongside several local chefs, including the Tribe’s Head Chef Lucca and Alan Murungi of Sierra Brasserie to re-create classic Kenyan dishes with a contemporary twist.
Ashley who is the Group Executive Head Chef at the Michelin starred Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, began his career working for a local restaurant when he was 13. He later joined Heston Blumenthal at The Fat Duck in Bray in 1999 and quickly rose up the ranks. Since 2008, he has been the Executive Head Chef for the Fat Duck group. Ashley currently heads up the kitchen at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal at the Mandarin Oriental, Hyde Park which was voted as No. 7 in the San Pelligrino top 50 restaurants in the world.
