Something’s cooking over at Que Pasa and it smells really REALLY good. From Friday 17 October Que Pasa’s Head Chef, Anthony Kunyiha will be offering a brand new, Chef’s Special Menu. This continues with the restaurant’s new promotion, which will see the fine-dining menu change every 2 weeks over a 2 month period.
I recently had the pleasure of sampling the delectable artistry at the talented hands of Chef Anthony. The evening was a harmonic collaboration between Diageo’s world-renowned Classic Malts Selection and Chef Anthony’s sharp taste buds as illustrated in his 4-course pairing menu. It has to be said that for an inexperienced scotch-drinker such as myself, Chef Anthony’s kaleidoscope of varying textures and tastes was much needed. His clever balancing and contrasting allowed any person of any palette to attempt to experience—and appreciate—the subtle (and not-so-subtle) characteristics of the whiskies.
It goes without saying that I truly enjoyed each bite. From the cool, creamy freshness of the avocado mousse atop silky chunks of smoked salmon; to the vibrant cream cheese and pineapple salsa offset by an inventive slither of mint jelly.
The robust and juicy entrée of roasted duck wellington served as a deliciously sturdy partner (and buffer) to the first scotch that was served neat. Lastly, the dessert of Cardhu ice cream dotted with raisins and accompanied by a dark chocolate cigar was a pleasurable and faultless mouthful of soft against crunchy and sweet against savory.
Chef Anthony’s ever-evolving creativity and passion was very clearly evident in the pairing menu. It is incredibly exciting to hear that the talented chef will be sharing his lesser-known, fine dining finesse with the public.
The new Chef’s Specials Menu will feature 3 dynamic and creative courses and will change every 2 weeks over the course of 2 months, at which point the menu cycle will start again (so if you miss this debut menu you’ll be able to catch it in a month and a half’s time). Items from the Chef’s Special Menu can be ordered individually or go at 2500Ksh for 3 courses. Aside from this, Chef Anthony has spruced up a few classic Que Pasa favorites—like the thai chicken, gourmet burgers and more—so there is something for everyone.
