An Old Fashioned cocktail is not one for the youth. It is certainly not the kind of cocktail you order on a wild night out with your friends. It is a mans drink that is drank by men who like to read the newspaper on Sunday afternoons after a hearty lunch with the family. The type of man who enjoys an Old Fashioned cocktail has no tolerance for mediocrity. From time to time, he enjoys watching Mad Men and smiles when Don Draper orders one. That might not sound like your dad. He might not even like Mad Men or fill up the crossword, but if he does like whisky, this one is for him.

The Old Fashioned cocktail is has been around for a while. Since the 1800’s the Old Fashioned has proved to be the most recognisable and possibly the oldest whisky cocktail around the world. Incase you’ve always wanted to know how to make one, we’ve got you covered. Take your time and make your dad a killer cocktail.


  1. 2 bitters of your choice
  2. 2 orange peel zest
  3. 60ml of your desired whisky
  4. 1 tsp of brown sugar
  5. ice

How to make

  1. Place the sugar in the glass and the bitters.
  2. Add half the whisky and the orange peel zest.
  3. Stir well to dissolve the sugar.
  4. Fill the glass with ice.
  5. Add the remaining whisky and orange zest and give it one final stir.
