Birthday parties can be a great boost to any child’s self-esteem or ego. Making them feel like kings or queens for the day can go along way and may end up being one of the best and most lasting gifts and pleasure you can even give them. But you may ask yourself I’m planning a perfect birthday for my kid so where and how should I start?
Guest List and Invitations
If your child is over four, it’s good to consult them on who to invite. Try to make the invite to coincide with the mood for the event. If you have older children encourage them to make invitations out of paper dolls, puzzle pieces or depending birthday theme chosen. Don’t forget to indicate time, date and directions, include special particulars like ‘parents should accompany children’
The Ideal Location.
If you feel comfortable you can choose your home depending on the suitability for a children’s birthday, there is also an option to either rent or reserve space in a community recreation centre. You could also visit either of these child-friendly restaurants that would be glad to host you for that special day. Birthday parties away from home can work better for kids over five since younger children may be overwhelmed by unfamiliar surroundings, so it is good to factor that into account.
Having a good atmosphere is everything. After you’ve chosen the theme, try and come up with a little creativity to set the stage running. Sometimes is also good to consult your child because kids are naturally imaginative; you never know what they may come up with in the end.
Depending on the ages and attention spans of your children and their guests, maybe an outside entertainment setting could prove to be a big hit. Sometimes younger children (below four or five) may be bored by a performance that goes on longer than 30 minutes. Try and look for an entertainer who the kids are familiar with to avoid any disappointments.
Organize for Help
It is advisable to not do it alone. Everything becomes easier if you have help. A spouse, relative, neighbor or friends who can assist you with preparation of the activities as well as serving and later the cleanup will be of great help. This is especially important if you are planning to entertain children whose parents may not be around for long.
Choosing the Food
For brief parties, cake and ice cream is the real need. Birthday cake is the focal point of the party. Let your child pick a design and flavour that they love and you’re home free. Tradition dictates that the birthday boy or girl gets the first piece of cake. It is good to have more than one flavor of ice cream on hand, since young children tend can be picky and choosy eaters and may end up choosing ice cream over the cake.
Dealing with Sibling rivalry
It may be the birthday boy or girls big day but that doesn’t necessarily mean you should ignore his/her siblings. You may want to arrange for the siblings to invite one of their special friends so that they may feel as a part of the whole process.
