When I was a wee little lad, I never really grasped the concept of Mother’s Day. One day just to celebrate my mum? I was 5 and if I wasn’t going to have my cereal and watch cartoons in my pjs all day long, I’d throw a world war fit. As I grew older and all that stupidity washed away, I begun to appreciate my mum in the best way I could. So when I was ten I bought her lots of jewellery. Some she didn’t wear, some she still does. It wasn’t until I was in my teens, that me and my sister begun making her breakfast in bed, designing home made cards and presenting countless failed attempts at chocolate cake, did we realise that it’s the thought that counts. Whether you buy her a yacht or string her a necklace, she’ll always be your mum and she’ll love you for whatever little you do for her.
Here are simple gift ideas you could try out and surprise your mum with this Mothers Day.
1. Breakfast In Bed.
For once, be the first to wake up and whip up something delicious for your mum. A glass of fresh juice, a hot cup of tea, pancakes and a bouquet of her favourite flowers should do her some morning goodness. Remember to wash the dishes too, clean the house up. Its her day after all, spoil her!
2. Write her a poem or a letter.
You may not be a wordsmith or know the first thing about poetry but you can write. All you have to do is tell her how much you appreciate her and thank her for all she’s done for you. No generic cards, just an honest heartfelt letter should do. Leave it on her dresser and let it brighten up her day!
3. Take her to the spa
After all those times she carried you, cleaned up after you and opened the door for you when you came back from a rave, she needs the spa. InterContinental have an excellent Mother’s Day spa offer where a lucky mum will win a cake. It will rejuvenate her body and relax her mind.
4. Go out and have fun!
Everybody loves the great outdoors. Everybody loves fresh air! Pack a picnic with the rest of the family and go out to a park, lets say, the Arboretum or Oloolua Nature Trail in Karen. Carry lots of games and a ball because hey, whats fun without a ball?
5. Afternoon Tea
This should bring the day to a delicious close. Treat your mum to delicious freshly baked pastries with a mug of hot coffee and wind away the afternoon with the most precious woman in your life. Mama’s Patisserie or Cafe Maghreb at Serena should be ideal spots for an afternoon with mother dearest.
