The Singleton Bites & Barrels Festival – What You Missed

written by Fred Mwithiga 1st June 2017

Without a doubt, whisky and food pairings are a must for any food lover. Take all that goodness, bring together some of Nairobi’s top entertainers at The Alchemist and you have yourself, a proper street food festival.

I recently attended The Singleton Bites & Barrels Festival this past Saturday and I absolutely loved it. On site were a variety of food vendors, each with a specially created whisky infused menu that was available on offer. From Mama Rocks, to Street Food Bistro to Picazzo, I was seriously spoiled for choice on where to start and where to finish. I eventually decided to have my dessert early and went to get a dose of Sugarpie Cupcakes, a bite out of  Tiramisu, then cooled off with Fior Di Latte gelatos before pausing for a cheese break at Browns Cheese all while bopping my head to the music and sipping my lovely Berry Jam Sour cocktail.
After the food had settled in, I decided to delve a little deeper into the Singleton range. Hosted by DIAGEO brand ambassador, Dougie Duncanson, The Singleton sensorium was nothing short of intimate, lively and hilarious. The perfect opportunity for a budding whisky lover or a seasoned veteran.
A few drinks later, and me and my mates were on the dance floor, fists in the air and legs on auto pilot singing along to DeeJay Kace’ fresh mixes till the wee hours of the morning. It was definitely one of those nights I wanted to go on and on. With a great crowd, in a great setting fuelled by fantastic cocktails and powered by the array delicious bites around, I’m already looking forward to the next Bites & Barrels Festival. I just hope it comes soon. Really soon.
