16 contestants, including 4 men, 4 vegetarian and 4 non-Nairobians, battled it out on Saturday 8th June for the SunGold SunRice Super Chef Season 3 which was off to a brilliant bake.
The judges Arif Manji and Avraj Marwa created a time crunching challenge by setting up the task to cook two starters, two mock tails and two desserts all in a matter of just 60 minutes.
The pantry was open with plenty of fruits and vegetables from Corner Shop Diamond Plaza, while the refrigerator was stocked amply with meat, fish and cheese courtesy Quality Meat Packers and all kinds of cheese from Raka Cheese. The drinks to use included Soda and juices, while the dressing up was left to the imagination of the contestant. Each counter was beautifully designed by Kitchen Professionals Ltd and set up with Sungold & Sunrice on hand and items from Joseph and Joseph and Hotpoint. There were cooking utensils from Vinod Stainless Steel whilst cleaning items from the specialist Safisha. Water on each counter proudly sponsored by Waba Mineral Water.
The pantry well stocked by items from Kamili Packers with their entire Nutrameal Range of grains, flours whilst the spices by Tropical Heat. The contestants had a choice from the American Garden Range and other items freshly locked in containers of Lock and Lock. Each one hosted their presentation in amazing cutlery and crockery from Clique Ltd.
There were tension strokes through the challenge and what was also interesting to note the age gap, which ranged from 18 years to mid-40s. Contestants from Kisumu and Mombasa were flown in on Fly 540 and graciously hosted at the Tribe.
This was a fresh scorecard and the judges were keen to capture presentation, creativity, taste and hygiene. The supporters too came in large numbers to witness the ups and downs of this mega-challenge, which was going to eliminate 8 contestants for the next round.
East FM team was on hand through the competition to provide any assistance and keeping the morale high.
Ultimately it was the mature, courageous and creative who made it. Thus the Top 8 now are:
2 Tarah Khan (Mba)
3 Pavleen Bhamra (Ksm)
4 Komal Chhedda (Nbo)
5 Mohamed Raghib (Nbo)
6 Neeta Mehta (Nbo)
7 Karishma Singh (Nbo)
