It’s not every day you get to have pizza for breakfast. For those you decide to, how about making it a sunny side up pizza? Just like with most of the recipes, this adds a unique flavourful edge (and it will definitely brighten up your day!).
This breakfast pizza, as expected, will take up a bit more of your time so we suggest preparing some ingredients like the dough overnight. Find the two-ingredient pizza dough recipe here. You will use this to make your sunny side up pizza. You will also need Gruyere cheese which you can alternate with Emmental cheese, available at Naivas stores locally.
Cornmeal, for the baking sheet
Flour, for the surface
Pizza dough, thawed if frozen
1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard
100g of Gruyère, coarsely grated (about 1 cup), Emmental cheese is a good alternative
100g of thinly sliced deli ham
1 bunch spinach, thick stems discarded
4 large eggs
salad, for serving
- Heat oven to 450°F. Lightly dust a large baking sheet with cornmeal. On a lightly floured surface, shape pizza dough into a 16″ oval or circle. Place on prepared sheet.
- Spread mustard over dough, then sprinkle with 3⁄4 cup of cheese. Top with ham, spinach and remaining 1⁄4 cup cheese.
- Working with one egg at a time, crack eggs into a small bowl, then slide onto the pizza. Bake until egg whites are set and crust is golden brown, 15 to 17 minutes. Serve with a salad, if desired.
