Over the past weekend I got the opportunity to attend the first Chef’s Kitchen forum meant to bring together Chefs, Food & Beverage Managers and Procurement Managers in the hotel and hospitality establishments to interact, engage and learn from the suppliers and manufactures of the hospitality industry.
The Fact is in any hospitality establishment, the Chef is the ultimate determining factor in the choice of equipment for use and meals thus, in any establishment of good repute, the equipment used and food products have to be top notch and without a doubt trendy and efficient.
The objective of the event was to offer professional culinary education to Chefs,Food & Beverage Managers and Purchasing Managers who are decision makers and influencers in food purchases and kitchen equipment. The Forum concept is to provide participants with the latest trends and information related to industry products and to motivate them to improve their culinary careers. The forum is open to professionals drawn from hotels, game lodges, restaurants, schools, hospitals, catering institutions and NGO’s among other related establishments.
In attendance and in hand to give a motivational talk about the Road to the top as a Professional Kenyan Chef was The Stanley’s Executive Chef Godfrey Ouda who told it as it is about what a day is like as a chef in a 5 star hotel. He also rightfully mentioned how hard but satisfying the job is which requires a passionate individual to make it.
Later, Chef made a demo of making a dish from scratch using some ingredients that were available that wowed the attendees who were on hand to sample the dish.
In attendance as well was Mr. Imtiaz Velji, the Financial Manager at Quality Meat Packers(QMP) who were the main sponsors of the event. QMP is a local privately owned slaughter house and meat processing plant situated along Kangundo Rd, Nairobi. They specialise in beef, lamb and chicken products. This was also an opportunity for them to unveil their new processed meats products and have the chefs sample them and possibly introduce them to their respective hotels and restaurants.
Other Companies in attendance at the forum included the makers of Dawaat Rice, Mjengo Limited and Bio Food Products Ltd.
Im really Looking forward to the next one in December as it is a great networking opportunity.
