Top 5 Taco Spots in Nairobi

written by Yummy Team 14th August 2019

Wikipedia defines the taco as a traditional Mexican dish consisting of a corn or wheat tortilla folded or rolled around a filling. That description does not do it justice because there is so much you can do with a simple taco. You could fill it with chicken, make it for breakfast or stuff it full of brains. If you’re curious and want to try one or if it’s been a while and you want to rekindle your appetite for these pockets full of goodness, here are the top 5 spots in Nairobi where you can find a wide variety of them.

Burrito Bar

The Burrito Bar is a conceptual modern Mexican restaurant that recently relocated to The Alchemist Bar. Brought to you by sisters Fatuma and Faiza Hersi, Burrito Bar prides itself on bringing a modern Mexican twist to some of the meals included on their menu as many of the ingredients chosen are readily available in Kenya! Their fish tacos are a must-try along with their spicy salsas.

CJs

Cafe Javas also known as CJs came in and took Nairobi by storm with its well-designed interiors and great tasting food. You probably think you’ve had everything on their menu but I can bet you haven’t tried their soft tacos. They come in a set of 3 with seasoned grilled chicken or beef, over jack cheese & topped with house-made salsa, sliced avocado and chopped cilantro wrapped in flour tortillas served with warm fluffy rice.

We are fond of Fonda’s tacos (you know you saw that pun coming) for many reasons. The first reason is that they come served in a generous portion. The second reason is that they come with fresh guacamole. We would mention the third reason but we are to busy placing an order for a round of tacos!

Mercado

The selection of tacos here will have you spoiled for choice. Our favourite is the shrimp tacos but do not hesitate to get into the spirit of things and try as many as you can. Top each with a generous spoonful of salsa, squeeze of fresh lime juice and enjoy!

Taco

This small and unassuming stand in Village Market’s food court serves up fresh tacos daily if you didn’t already guess from the name. Choose from chicken, fish, beef, goat, or delicious vegan options of black bean and crispy butternut with kale and cashew cream. Pair it with a potent Margherita and enjoy!
