Usher the Month with a Super Detox-The Healthy Way

Feeling unhealthy bloated and over-boozed of late? Sugary foods, alcohol and general excess can leave your liver overworked and out-of-sorts. It’s easy to over indulge in all the treats and drinks especially because it’s hard to beat such temptations. Some of the signs that show that you need a detox are constipation, flatulence, poor skin, loss of energy, weight gain and insomnia. If you are experiencing any of these give your body a well-deserved break and follow some of our much needed tips on how to get yourself back on track for the New Year.

As you undergo your detox be sure to drink two litres of water a day to help cleanse your system and brighten your mood. It works to flush away toxins and can even improve brain functionality. There are a few foods we strongly recommend you integrate into your diet, first of all beetroot! This vegetable supports good gallbladder and liver health – organs that are paramount for breaking down and removing toxins.

Lemons are another good suggestion as they stimulate the release of enzymes and help to convert toxins into a water-soluble form that can easily be excreted from the body. Lastly no detox plan is complete without garlic as it is a powerful antiviral, antiseptic and antibiotic. Ridding your body of these pathogenic microbes can reduce endogenous toxins. Other foods that are recommended include green leafy vegetables, seaweed, apples and flaxseed.

Super Detox Green Juice

This is a simple recipe consisting of two celery stalks, one small cucumber, two kale leaves, a handful of spinach, a handful of fresh parsley or coriander (dhania) and one apple. Just add all the ingredients to a blender along with a cup of chilled water and ice if desired. Blend until smooth.
