Naomi Kairu Foundation established in memory of the bakery’s chief chef’s mother will provide scholarships for needy students at all levels of education and mentor the youth
Valentine Cake House, the leading bakery in Kenya, has launched its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) wing that will see it impact communities through various initiatives.
The Naomi Kairu Foundation, established by the bakery’s founder and chief chef, Mr. Mathew Githua, in memory of his mother will deepen its involvement in education and health issues.
Through the foundation, Valentine Cake House will set up a dispensary in Kajiado County and offer scholarships to bright but needy children across the country. The scholarship programme is already catering for more than 100 students in primary, secondary and higher institutions of learning.
Speaking during the launch, which coincided with his 50th birthday celebrations, Mr. Githua noted that Valentine Cake House owes its success to customers support and goodwill hence the need to appreciate by giving back to the community. “As we strive to give our customers a better experience with our products, we also want to appreciate their goodwill by supporting less unfortunate children from the communities to access education and become better leaders in future,” he said during the launch at Suki Gardens in Kiserian.
The foundation runs St. Ruthma Children’s Home in Ruiru, where the youth are being mentored. Valentines Cake House helped construct the home and is rearing chicken at its farm where it obtains eggs for baking. The bakery also has a baking school that has produced over 6,000 trained bakers since its inception in 2007. The school has 5 branches that offer cake & pastry making courses as well as decoration courses at affordable rates.
Last year, the bakery rebranded and introduced a new product line constituting seven different flavours in a bid to maintain their foothold in the hospitality subsector.
The new brand has since given customers a better experience through efficient ordering, payment and delivery system.
Valentine Cake House’s products are in diversities of birthday, corporate event and wedding cakes; baked and decorated professionally to the very precise detail.
“Our impassioned team goes above and beyond to ensure the delivery of remarkable cakes to our patrons. We believe that our customers’ gratification precedes our profit. It is in this light that we assemble premier ingredients to furnish exemplary cakes,” said Chef Mathew.
Valentine Cake House was established in 1997 with its first outlet in Mombasa. It currently has outlets in Nairobi, Thika, Naivasha and Meru. Its branches in Nairobi are based at old Mutual within CBD, Rongai, Embakasi, Kitengela, Langata, Fedha, Buru Buru and Gateway Mall.
