San Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards are seen as Oscars of fine dining industry and often viewed by some as more influential than coveted Michelin stars.
This year’s event in London, has turned into the biggest annual gathering of chefs from around the world and are now accompanied by other events in London. Noma was named the world’s best restaurant, toppling last year’s victor El Celler de Can Roca and regaining the title it had won three times.
Africa’s only entry in the top 50 was from Cape Town’s The Test Kitchen (Number 48). Earlier this year, EatOut had the priviledge to meet Chef Luke Dale Roberts and sampled his 9 course Gourmand menu. We look forward to the day when our very own in Nairobi will get on to this list. Only time will tell.
Noma’s 20 course tasting menu will set you back a cool Ksh 25000, with sea urchin toast, beef tartar & ants, and pickled & smoked quails egg some of the highlights on offer. Bookings are a must and in often months in advance.
Noma will be debuting in Japan early next year for just two months, where Chef Redpezi and team will seek to apply their philosophy to Japanese ingredients. But for now Noma can celebrate its 10th anniversary on top of the world once again.
