You know what goes down well with the world’s most expensive pizza? The world’s most expensive wine! Those two paired together are the exact definition of expensive taste. A list of the 50 most expensive wines was put together by the WineSearcher website. The 1985 Richebourg Grand Cru, which is from Burgundy, France beat the world famous Romanee-Conti to the shock of connoisseurs and wine enthusiasts.
The Richebourg Grand Cru has an average price of Ksh 1.5 million and can go for as much as Ksh 2.4 million. What’s interesting to note is that 40 out of the 5o most expensive wines are from France and the top three are all from the same region – Burgundy.
I’ve seen a bottle of 2007 Marques de Riscal Reserve going for Ksh 55,000 at Fairview Hotel’s Wine Cellar and I was blown away, but to think that someone somewhere is buying a bottle worth Ksh 1.5 M right now is a whole new level. Lets break it down shall we, lets say you like to spend Ksh. 1,500 on a bottle of wine. With 1.5 million shillings, you could buy, 1000 bottles of wine. That’s a 1000 bottles of 56 Hundred Chenin Blanc from Nederburg!
It doesn’t hurt to splurge every now and then but unless you’ve got the juice, don’t go breaking your bank. After all, 1000 bottles are much better, and more satisfying, than one.
