‘You can’t afford me’ – the world’s most expensive doughnut

We’ve done a lot of  ‘most expensive dishes’ on Yummy. From pizzas to wine, fish pies and yes, even an omelette that costed kshs 87,000 – the simplest breakfast option.

So of course we wouldn’t be surprised when we came across the worlds most expensive doughnut. Right?

It’s a doughnut! How much do the ingredients cost? Flour? Eggs? Sugar?

Well, this doughnut is a special doughnut!

To mark National Doughnut Week (yep, awesome), Krispy Kreme -a UK based doughnut store-unveiled the world’s most expensive doughnut, with a staggering £1,000 price tag. That’s around 146,000 for ONE doughnut!

The gold doughnut, which took three days to assemble, is filled with Dom Perignon 2002 vintage champagne jelly and raspberry and Chateau d’Yquem creme and is topped with a passion fruit glaze, edible 24ct gold leaf, handmade gold-dusted Belgian white chocolate lotus flowers, blossoms, ivy and butterflies, and edible ‘diamonds’.

If you haven’t developed Type 2 diabetes just reading that, there’s more. The sweet delicacy sits on top of a Krispy Kreme cocktail made from raspberry and passion fruit syrup, 500-year-old Courvoisier de L’Esprit Cognac and topped with 2002 Dom Perignon.

Krispy Kreme also presented a cheque for £10,000 to The Children’s Trust, a leading UK charity for children with brain injuries, raised from sales of its doughnuts during National Doughnut Week.
