EatOut’s CEO, Mikul Shah was recently honoured for his contribution to the Kenyan tech community at the iHub’s 5yrTechBash that was held at the Nairobi Arboretum on the 7th of March.
The award celebrated the contribution of entrepreneurs who have impacted the Kenyan tech industry thus making it one of the most notable in the region. iHub celebrated its 5th year anniversary and brought together the largest tech gathering ever in Kenya’s history. The event featured performances from H_art The Band, Just a Band, MDQ and P-Unit.
EatOut, which was launched in 2010 with only Ksh 100,000 capital, has quickly become the region’s largest restaurant guide and booking engine, picking up several notable awards along the way, and generating billions of shillings in revenue for its restaurant partners. In 2013 EatOut raised investment from Netherlands based Africa Media Ventures Fund, with the aim of launching new revenue models with Yummy Magazine & Yummy Card and expanding to major cities within the region in 2015. Over the years EatOut has built a strong reputation and partnered with tech giants such as Google, Safaricom, Uber & Twitter.
The award follows Mikul’s recent appointment to the Safaricom Spark Fund advisory board which will aim to invest US$1m in early stage technology startups over the next 18 months.
